How a custom portal domain works

A custom domain connects an address you control with the portal you have built in Client Portal Builder. The connection is created through your domain's DNS settings. Once it is active, clients can use your own domain instead of the default portal address.

You do not need to move your monday.com data or recreate your workflow somewhere else. The custom domain changes how clients reach the portal, while the underlying client information and operational work remain connected to monday.com.

What you need to connect a custom domain

Before connecting a domain, you need a published Client Portal Builder portal and access to a domain that you control. You will also need access to the DNS settings for that domain so that the chosen subdomain can be pointed to Client Portal Builder. Most companies use a subdomain rather than the address of their main website. Common examples could be: portal.company.com, clients.company.com or my.company.com

Which address you choose is largely up to you. It should simply be easy for clients to recognize and remember. The technical connection itself only requires a small DNS configuration. Because DNS interfaces differ between providers and the required setup can change over time, we maintain the current values and exact instructions in our custom domain documentation.

What happens to the original portal address?

Connecting your own domain does not mean clients need to keep track of multiple portal addresses. Client Portal Builder can redirect visitors from the default portal address to your connected custom domain. This is particularly useful if you previously shared the original URL with clients or they already have it bookmarked. Your custom domain can therefore become the main address you use when linking to the portal from your website, emails or other client communication.

Google login

Use a custom domain with Google authentication

A custom domain is also relevant if you want clients to sign in with their Google account. Google authentication in Client Portal Builder requires your portal to use a custom domain. Once the domain is connected, you can configure Google authentication and offer it as a login method for your clients. The authentication setup is separate from connecting the domain itself.
